What We Used The Internet For

I'm sure almost everyone I know today use computers, laptops, tablets or mobile phones with of course the Internet. I can't imagine them, or even myself, living in this century, without the internet. No matter how sucks they at technology, everybody want to get higher in social ranks through recognition as an IT savvy, a tech guy, the gadget enthusiasm or even an avid facebooker (WTF?).

Even though Internet is not the solution to life, it is undeniably important and can be used as a tools to solve some problems we facing.

Some might say that they can die right after they get disconnected. Is it true to you?

There are three kinds of death in this world.  There's heart death, there's brain death, and there's being off the network.  ~ Guy Almes

So, what is basically the reason we used the Internet for???

1. Communication.
This is also the reasons why Internet are invented. Everyday, we used or have to used email, social network (Facebook, Twitter) or instant messaging (Yahoo Messenger, Skype) to communicate.

Kids (and adults...sigh) nowadays use these invention extensively. Although it is more simple and quick to interact with friends and relatives, the trend can endangered traditional way of meet up and speak up.

2. Study
Compared to early 90's, Internet today has grown into an extremely large collection of information. You can find the information about almost everything from how-to manuals, recipes, life and love problem solutions or medical treatments to name a few. You just have to know the right question search it (or Google it) and then the answer will pop for your reference.

The problem is how to determine the useful and validity of the information is. Anybody can share something on Facebook or write a post in their blog, yet there is nobody that can verify the content.

The Internet is the world's largest library.  It's just that all the books are on the floor. ~ John Allen Paulos

It worth to mention that while typing this entry I googled some of the information related. Well, who wasn't right?

3. Entertainment
From the emergence of Napster in June 1999 (my first semester at UiTM), the entertainment industry had the little success in fight against file sharing networks. Either via FTP (file transfer protocol), peer-to-peer (p2p) file sharing, or direct download, Internet users around the globe can download their favorite movies and songs without paying any cents to the copyright owner.

Thanks to loose Internet regulations, we can still enjoy the revolution made by Napster using any new way possible (4shared, Mediafire, Rapid Share). All hails to those who create data transfer protocol.

4. Business
It is true that Internet has changes our way of life including in conducting business. The changes is not limited to rename the economic jargon such as business to online business, commerce to electronic commerce (e-commerce), marketing to telemarketing but also the way me manage our business.

The facts that the company who adopt the Internet technology early has been successful to expand and sustain company's growth compared to their competitor who doesn't. With the Internet, it is possible to get international attention via advertisement and promotional in the company's website.

If you have a web site, it makes your small business look big.  ~ Natalie Sequera

I also like to take this opportunity to advertise our online store, Arissa's Choice (advertisement). I promise to give all my reader special discount, wink wink (promotion).

The four reasons that I write is all that I know for the moment. What about you? If you so kind to share what you use the Internet for, I really apreciate it.

Thank you.
